European Parliament Elections 2019

The next elections to the European Parliament will be held in 23-26 May 2019. Members of the European Parliament currently represent some 500 million people from 28 member states.

The May 2014 EU election saw the lowest voter turnout on record, with just over 42%. The EU countries with the most significant drops in turnout are Ireland (at 52.44%, down from 58.64% in 2009), Spain (43.1%) and Portugal (33.67%).

One of the aims of FAIR EU is to identify patterns and reasons which explain low voter turnout particularly among EU mobile citizens in specific host countries. Lack of trust in the EU project, lack of general awareness and understanding of how the elections work.
